The teaser’s two dialogues: “Kuchh rishte karzon ke tarah hote hain. Jinhe nibhana nahi, chukana padhta hai,” says Varun Dhawan at the beginning while “Jab kisi aur ki barbaadi jeet jaise laage… toh humse zyada barbaad aur koi nahi hai iss duniya mein,” is narrated by Alia Bhatt.
Kalank is a Dharma Productions project and was conceptualised by Karan Johar some 15 years ago. The teaser of Kalank was released today, unveiling the lead characters Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutta, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapur in a grand setting. The teaser shows grand sets, larger-than-life action scenes and the women of Kalank in regal finery. Madhuri is back to doing what she does best – mesmerising everyone with her graceful moves, while Sonakshi and Alia are seen in glimpses from emotional scenes. The two-minute clip features the entire cast of the film in a 1940s setup. Sanjay plays the role of Baldev Chaudhry, an ageing patriarch. With references to Dussehra and glimpses of a rural setting, the teaser reminds one of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, which had similar motifs and undertones.
Kalank teaser also has Madhuri Dixit’s courtesan, Sonakshi Sinha’s Satya and Sanjay Dutt’s Balraj — all looking concerned. And then there are the beautiful shots that have Alia on a languorous boat ride, Varun in a bullfight and the Far Eastern icons that are scattered all over. Written by Abhishek Varman, Kalank has been jointly produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta. The film has music by Pritam, with reportedly special appearances by Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon. The wait for “Kalank” will be over on April 19 this year.
