Very few movies in Bollywood is more focused on the script and has a desi touch. Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is one movie that has both the factors coupled. Added to these the acting niche of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bidita Bag among others are factors that add crux to the movie. It does have some downsides that could keep a faction away from watching it.
As the name implies, the movie is about a gunman Babu Bihari, who is a cold blooded murderer accepting murder contracts. He confronts Phulwa, who is a victim of repeated rapes by two men. She offers to be his Rakheil in exchange for the murder of the two men. Love blooms and there comes Banke Bihari (another gunman), who calls Babu Bihari as his guruji. The two end up in a competition to kill 3 each and the result of the same.
Even though it is slow moving, the movie has a versatile screenplay, unique acting from Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bidita Bag and the one who plays Banke Bihari. Added to these, Divya Dutta as a politician as well steals the show with her exceptional acting. Songs fall in line with the sequence. Witty dialogues coupled with cold blooded murder scenes, make it a dark comedy. Above all, at the end, the movie is proclaimed to be inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s literary work. But the disturbing murder scenes and the sexual romance between the lead cast are factors that could keep the family crowd away.
So The Fans World verdict for the movie is 3.8 out of 5.
